Will Forster MP's Response to Concerns Over the West Hall Development

Will talking to resident

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me regarding the proposed West Hall development. I understand the concerns many of you have about the impact this project could have on our local community, particularly in terms of traffic congestion, sustainable transport options, and the provision of school places.

As many of you know, I have previously raised these concerns myself, having objected to the initial proposal. Specifically, I highlighted the potential issues with traffic, the lack of sufficient sustainable transport options, and the failure to meet active travel requirements. I also raised concerns about the lack of sufficient CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy) funding to provide the necessary school places to accommodate the new development.

For more details, you can read the BBC article here, which provides an update on the delayed decision regarding the 461 new homes in West Byfleet.

It is important to note that developers of large projects, such as the West Hall development, often make financial contributions to local councils to mitigate the impact on infrastructure and public spaces. These contributions, known as CIL payments, are meant to help support the development’s effect on roads, schools, and public amenities. However, it is vital that these payments are sufficient to address the actual demands and pressures such a large development will place on our community.

Rest assured, I will continue to monitor the situation closely. Should there be any further developments, I will keep you updated and informed.
