Will Forster's response to constituents' concerns over PIP

25 Mar 2025
Will Forster speaking on the phone in his Westminster office, he is wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a yellow tie.

Many Woking residents wrote to Will about their concerns over PIP payments. This was his response.

There are legitimate concerns that the welfare bill is rising unsustainably, but just slashing support without fixing our broken public services simply isn’t going to work. The Liberal Democrats believe that no one should fear for their future, struggle to put food on the table, or worry about heating their home and we know that there is often a significant income gap between disabled and non-disabled people leaving them especially vulnerable to the effects of the cost-of-living crisis.

We asked the Government to pledge that disability benefits for those who simply can not work will not be cut. Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey raised this directly with the Prime Minister at Prime Minister Questions on Wednesday 12th March when he asked:

“Does the Prime Minister recognise that the best way to help many disabled people into work is to support them properly, through more special equipment, training, better healthcare and so on? Will he also today calm anxieties that he himself has raised for many of us by saying that disability benefits for people who simply cannot work will not be cut?”

I will continue to engage with and monitor the situation and let you know of any developments. If there is anything else that I can help with please let me know.
