Update from Will about SWR APPG
The APPG is a cross-party parliamentary group, that Will chairs, formed by MPs on the SWR lines to hold the company to account.
Woking is one of the busiest stations in Surrey, yet passengers here are still stuck with an old-fashioned ticketing system.
Thousands of people use Woking station every day — commuters, students, visitors, and people heading into London for appointments, nights out or days away. But while other Surrey towns benefit from simple tap in, tap out travel, Woking passengers are left navigating confusing rules and unexpected charges.
Too often, people tap in at Waterloo assuming they can tap out at Woking, only to be hit with invalid journeys and eye-watering fares because the system simply doesn’t exist here. That confusion costs passengers hundreds of pounds every year — money they shouldn’t be losing just for using public transport.
At less than 30 minutes from London, Woking is an obvious candidate for tap in, tap out. It would make travel simpler, fairer and more accessible — not just for daily commuters, but for everyone who relies on our rail network.
It’s time Woking was brought into a modern, common-sense ticketing system that reflects how people actually travel.
We're less than 30 minutes on the train from London - let's make commuting easier for everyone.

Liberal Democrat MP, Will Forster, has announced that he has set up a new cross-party Parliamentary group aimed at empowering passengers by holding South Western Railway to account.
Will chaired the Inaugural General Meeting (IGM) of the South Western Rail All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). The meeting brought together parliamentarians to address the future of SWR and advocate for a stronger, more sustainable rail network.
Will Forster, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Woking, has set up a cross party group in Parliament that will look at South Western Railway’s impending nationalisation and deal with issues passengers have raised.
Our railways were once the pride of Britain, however rising fares and deteriorating service quality means this is distant memory. Commuters are increasingly finding themselves caught in a system that is unaffordable, unreliable, and unfair.
